Peter Mittler

I am 76 and have been retired since 2011 I am a Canadian songwriter and storyteller now based in Perth, Western Australia. My music blends heartfelt lyrics, faith, and lived experience into songs that honour family, resilience, and gratitude. My work bridges continents — from the MG Car Club of Toronto to the sunlit shores of Australia — with a style that is warm, honest, and deeply personal.

My work spans four themes:

People and Friendships — I wrote songs inspired by the MG Car Club of Toronto and friends like Jon Rosenthall, Jim Sweeney, and Johan Petersen. Dark Horse honours Peter Dhama, who helped me recover from surgery during COVID.

Faith and survival — songs like Angels in Blue, Joyous Moments, Desperate Man, IPMN, and One More Move reflect my gratitude to God after a near-death experience in 2020.

Family and memories — tributes to my wife Patricia, our family, and life’s milestones.

Hobbies and travel — pieces like The Danube Flows and I’m a Wood turner not a Wood Burner, celebrate creativity and craft. Join the journey — the best is still to come.

In 2026 I published my medical memoir “Before It Was Too Late" (Available on Amazon) and music video Don’t Wait Too Late.(Available on YouTube) Together they tell the story of how I avoided pancreatic cancer, survived a heart attack, and recovered — all during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I am 79 and been retired since 2014.
Retirement provided me the opportunity to do lots of things that my working life never allowed. It gave my wife and myself the chance to travel in our caravan. We have been all around Australia and seen so much of the beauty of our great country and met so many new people. If it’s not on your ”Bucket List” -. put it there.

When the kids were toddlers, I’d play and sing for them for 30 minutes or so every night at bedtime. Unfortunately, like a lot of things in life, when the kids grew a little older, I lost the incentive to play, and when that happened, there were lots of other activities to move up the priority list. The guitar was packed away, never to see the light of day for years. I did occasionally open the case, but never seriously as there were so many things happening in my life as to not leave time for my guitar.

Fortunately, retirement provided the opportunity to rekindle my love for playing guitar and singing. After several years of playing for myself, family and friends I looked for ways to share my love of music, and looked on facebook for people to “Jam” with.

I had several starters, but gelled with Peter and we started to play regularly together. After 12 months or so we both agreed that we should share our enjoyment of music. With that in mind, we approached several Residential Aged Care Facilities to do Free concerts for their residents. So here we are today playing under the banner of “Hamersley Jam”. We refer to ourselves as: “2 Grandpas with Guitars”

We look forward to entertaining you and your residents at your premises soon…
